So today in Gen. Physics we started going over the Theory of Special Relativity and my brain hurts. The theory of special relativity states that the measured time is in relation to speed in which we are traveling, so if you to travel 99.9% the speed of light (the speed of light is given to be 300,000,000 m/s) for 50 years of Earth time, you would have only experienced 2.235 years difference on your vehicle, supposedly the Time Dialation is caused by the acceleration and the deacceleration of the vehicle and not the actual speed. The other really difficult part of this to understand is that since you are traveling at 99.9% of the speed of the light, the velocity you measure on your ship of earth as you leave, has to be the same o as the measurement of the vehicle velocity from earth, that means that we are measuring two different distances traveled.
Ok so is it just me or is the like really illogical at first?
